App Store Conversion Rate
App Store conversion rate is the share of people who see your listing (or tap through to the product page) and then download. Apple and Google expose this as a funnel with shifting label names, impressions, product page views, conversion to download. Whatever the current UI, the idea is: traffic is not installs. The page in the middle leaks.
For indie founders this number is the quiet killer of creator programs. You celebrate a Reel, product page views tick up, downloads barely move, and you blame the creator. Often the screenshots never showed the UI the video promised.
Why it matters to an indie iOS or SaaS founder
It is the only conversion you fully own before the user opens the app. You do not own TikTok’s auction. You do own screenshot one.
Different sources will print different rates. High-intent search (“my app’s name”) converts well. Category search less well. Social worse. Blended conversion is a stew. When you test creators, try to read conversion for that traffic, not the stew, or you will “optimize” by turning off the channel that brought new people.
Ratings, subtitle, preview video, and localized screenshots all sit here. So does icon work (first impression in search results, which is an earlier step than product page conversion). Do not obsess over a 0.1pp change after one screenshot swap and call it science; look for obvious leaks (no social proof, first shot is a quote card with no product, six shots of onboarding).
This article will not quote a fake “industry average 3.2%.” Anyone who needs a number to feel safe should use their own baseline.
How it pairs with creators
Brief creators to show the same mechanic you put in screenshot one so the listing feels like the video’s next frame. Use custom product pages (Apple) when you can match a campaign or a unique URL to a hook. Prompt reviews after a win so social traffic sees humans, not an empty rating glyph.
If page views rise with a post and conversion holds, the creator found people. If page views rise and conversion collapses, the message/listing mismatch. If nothing rises, the post did not send store traffic (they forgot the CTA, the link died, or nobody cared).
How JumpTrend approaches it
JumpTrend does not A/B your product page. It sends better-matched attention if the avatar was honest. Conversion remains ASO. Do a listing pass before you buy a stack of paid Reels. Scout $1,500 still assumes there is a store page worth visiting.
How to read the funnel without a data team
Treat it as three leaks:
- Search results / impression → product page. Icon, title, subtitle, stars. If people do not tap, the video they saw may not match the name they then scanned.
- Product page → download. Screenshots, preview, reviews, age rating surprises, file size anxiety, “this looks like work.”
- Download → paying user. Not ASO anymore. Onboarding and paywall. Do not “fix conversion” on the listing when the refund reason is the paywall.
For creator tests, annotate the week: “social-heavy.” Compare that week’s product-page-to-download rate against a search-heavy week, not against a blended quarter. Cold traffic converts colder. If social conversion is catastrophically worse, the hook oversold.
Custom product pages (Apple) let you run more than one leak-check at once: a climbing screenshot set vs a generic set. Use them when you have two live hooks. Do not build twelve pages you will never assign.
No benchmark is printed here on purpose. Your last 14 days are the benchmark.
FAQ
What is a 'good' App Store conversion rate?
It depends on category, traffic source, and country. Search traffic converts differently than social. This page will not invent a global benchmark. Watch your own product page views vs downloads over time and by source when Apple shows it.
Where do I see it?
App Store Connect analytics (impressions / product page views / downloads, labels evolve). Google Play Console has analogous funnels. Third-party ASO tools estimate; treat estimates as estimates.
Why did conversion drop after a creator post?
Social traffic is colder than App Store search. Expect a lower rate, not necessarily a worse creator. Compare social-sourced conversion to search-sourced, not to last week's blended number.
Can creators fix conversion?
They can send better-matched users and language for screenshots. They cannot fix a paywall that ambushes at open or screenshots that hide the product.
