Measuring Creator-Driven Installs

Measuring creator-driven installs is the messy job of estimating how many downloads (and later, paying users) came from a creator’s post or from ads that used their content. Unlike Apple Search Ads, a For You video does not hand you a clean campaign object unless you paid for one. Privacy rules, shared phones, and people who search the app name a day later all break last-click fairy tales.

The goal for an indie founder is not a perfect multi-touch model. It is a decision: run another post, boost this one, or stop.

Why it matters to an indie iOS or SaaS founder

Without measurement you will keep the charismatic creator who did nothing and fire the quiet one whose comments were full of “just downloaded.” With naive measurement you will credit a TikTok view-through for installs that were already coming from ASA. Both errors cost real money at $1,500–$5,000 software plus talent fees.

You also need measurement to talk to yourself honestly about organic vs paid. Spark spend should have campaign reporting. A gifted mention should not be forced into the same ROAS cell.

App Store conversion rate still sits downstream. If product-page views rose and installs did not, the creator delivered traffic and the listing failed. That is a different fix than “creators don’t work.”

A measurement stack that does not invent precision

Before the post. Note baseline daily downloads (7–14 days if you can), listing conversion, and any concurrent campaigns. Do not launch a Product Hunt day and a creator post on the same morning if you wanted isolation.

Give each creator an identity. Unique custom code, unique link where possible, unique campaign in Ads Manager if Sparked. Write them in the contract.

Paid object when you can. Spark/whitelist ads get platform install stats and SKAN. Use those for ROAS. They are still imperfect; they are better than vibes.

Time-boxed lift for organic. Compare downloads in a window after posting to baseline, minus known paid. Label it estimate. If the lift is smaller than normal daily noise, you do not know.

Qualitative. Comment language, support emails that mention the handle, review text. Not countable enough for finance, useful enough for “this is our people.”

View-through. See the dedicated glossary page. Do not pay talent based only on a 7-day view-through number a dashboard was incentivized to inflate.

Net revenue, not gross. Store cut, refunds. Payback window written down.

Do not publish a case study with a fake CPI. Do not tell a creator their post “did 50k installs” unless you can defend it.

How JumpTrend approaches it

JumpTrend does not sell attribution software. It reduces the odds you are measuring the wrong person, matching via avatar scroll on real phones so the creator was in the ICP’s feed to begin with. After that, measurement is yours.

The product explicitly does not guarantee views or downloads. That is compatible with adult measurement: you will sometimes learn that a relevant creator still did not move the graph, and that is information. Scout ($1,500) / Outreach ($2,500) / Dealmaker ($5,000); creator fees extra; you approve rates.

A longer operational essay lives in the guides cluster: measuring creator-driven installs as a pillar. This page is the entity definition.

Codes, links, and what Apple will actually let you do

Custom offer codes and campaign URLs are useful and limited. Many users will search the app name after a video and bypass both. That does not make the creator fake; it makes last-touch incomplete. Pair codes with a time-boxed lift and you will be less wrong.

If you run Spark, the ads campaign is the identity, better than a code. If you run only organic, accept estimate-quality and do not pay bonuses on it.

FAQ

Is a unique promo code enough?

It is a start for people who type codes. Many users will tap through to the store without it. Combine codes with time-boxed lift, unique links where the platform allows, and paid campaign IDs when you Spark.

Why don't platform 'view-through' numbers match my dashboard?

They count people who saw a video and installed later, with windows and identity graphs you do not control. Treat view-through as directional, not as cash. See view-through attribution.

Should I use a mobile MMP?

If you already run paid UA at meaningful spend, an MMP (or Apple's own reporting plus SKAN) is worth the plumbing. For a first creator test, unique codes plus App Store Connect analytics plus a written window are enough to decide whether to do a second post.

Can JumpTrend report my installs?

No. JumpTrend matches and optionally contacts and contracts. Measurement lives in your store, ads accounts, and analytics. Do not expect a vendor who does not see the binary to certify CPI.
