Board game collection apps vs a hashtag list
A hashtag list for board game collection apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.
People tag boardgames tag when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.
The person: US English, 24-42, already bounced off BoardGameGeek they find hostile on a phone and a spreadsheet of plays, watches BGG on a phone is a fight and Friday-night-picker videos at a shelf. They watch BGG-on-phone, Friday-night-picker, we argued rules for 40 minutes, shelf-shame. Example: someone picking a game for Friday and opening BGG to a page they cannot read. The same Friday-shelf face two weeks.
How I actually use a tag, then ignore it
Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 400k board-game-influencer whose grid is a weekly unboxing haul, because that is who buys the tag.
Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
Like an unboxing haul and you will leave the Friday-picker people. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.
When a hashtag is enough
If you are learning that Friday shelves, hostile BGG, not unboxing hauls is next to BGG-on-phone, Friday-night-picker, we argued rules for 40 minutes, shelf-shame, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.
The tag is unboxing-haul talent.
