BookTok reading trackers vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for BookTok reading trackers is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.

People tag #booktok when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: US English, 18-30, already bounced off Goodreads they feel watched on and a Notes app of titles, watches ‘Goodreads made reading a job’ and TBR-shame videos in bed with a paperback. They watch Goodreads-anxiety, TBR-shame, ‘I DNF and I will not log it there’, bed-paperback. Example: someone closing Goodreads because a 1-star felt like a performance. The same bed-paperback face two nights.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 500k BookToker whose whole grid is publisher PR, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a publisher haul and you will leave the DNF-in-peace people. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that DNF shame, bed paperbacks, not publisher-haul is next to Goodreads-anxiety, TBR-shame, ‘I DNF and I will not log it there’, bed-paperback, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag is publisher-PR talent who will not demo a tracker.
