Changelog tools vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for changelog tools is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would pay for this tool on a fresh account.

People tag #buildinpublic when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: US English indie SaaS, 25-38, already bounced off a GitHub releases page nobody reads and a Twitter ship thread that died in 20 minutes, watches ‘nobody reads the changelog’ and ‘I shipped and Slack was silent’ videos after a release night. They watch unread-changelog, silent-Slack-after-ship, ‘GitHub releases are for other engineers’, ship-thread death. Example: someone posting a ship thread that gets three likes, all from other founders. The same silent-Slack face two release nights.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the launch-playbook guru selling Product Hunt templates, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a Product Hunt rocket video and you will leave the silent-Slack indie. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that silent Slack, ship nights, not Series-B launch theater is next to unread-changelog, silent-Slack-after-ship, ‘GitHub releases are for other engineers’, ship-thread death, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag is launch coaches; they want a PH playbook affiliate.
