Dating apps vs a hashtag list
A hashtag list for dating apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.
People tag #datingapp when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.
The person: US English, 24-36, already bounced off Hinge prompts they recycled and a Bumble match they never messaged, watches ‘dating apps fried my brain’ and leftover-Hinge-prompt videos on Sunday night. They watch dating-app burnout, ‘I paid for Hinge and got the same six people’, leftover prompts, small-city drought. Example: someone deleting Hinge, redownloading it four days later, and getting the same stack. The same leftover-prompt face two Sunday nights in a row.
How I actually use a tag, then ignore it
Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 1M dating-coach who sells a $2k profile makeover and has never shipped an app, because that is who buys the tag.
Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
One like on a looksmaxxing video and the phone will leave burnout content for weeks. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.
When a hashtag is enough
If you are learning that loneliness Sunday, not pickup or lookmaxxing is next to dating-app burnout, ‘I paid for Hinge and got the same six people’, leftover prompts, small-city drought, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.
The tag is dating coaches and matchmakers; they want a makeover funnel, not your indie listing.
