DTC supplement brands vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for DTC supplement brands is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as your client’s customer on a fresh account.

People tag #supplements when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: the client’s customer is US English, 25-40, already bounced off a tub they tasted once and a stack a YouTuber sold them, watches ‘my supplement graveyard’ and ‘this tub tastes like chalk’ videos at the kitchen sink. They watch supplement graveyard, chalk-taste, ‘the YouTuber stack’, tubs-under-the-sink. Example: someone opening a cabinet of half-used tubs. The same graveyard-cabinet face two sink nights.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the gym influencer whose whole grid is a storefront of 12 tubs, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a before-after body video and you will get talent you cannot run claims with. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that graveyard tubs, chalk taste, not medical claims and not before-after bodies is next to supplement graveyard, chalk-taste, ‘the YouTuber stack’, tubs-under-the-sink, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The catalog is storefront gym talent who will bury the SKU in a 12-tub haul.
