First fantasy sports apps campaign checklist
A first fantasy sports apps campaign at founder scale. Numbered so you can stop lying to yourself about which step you skipped.
- Confirm a live listing for a fantasy commissioner tool, not a sportsbook actually closes. Creators cannot fix packaging.
- Write the avatar in a sentence: US English, 23-38, already bounced off ESPN’s clunky waiver flow and a Discord league that still uses screenshots, watches ‘my commissioner is asleep on waivers’ and draft-board-panic videos on a Tuesday night.
- Write the problem in their mouth: The league lives on screenshots in Discord because the app still cannot do a clean waiver.
- Write what they already quit: ESPN fantasy they complain about every Tuesday, Sleeper they like but their league will not move, and a spreadsheet commissioner tool that broke.
- Write what they watch: commissioner rants, waiver-wire panic, ‘ESPN still looks like 2014’, draft-board chaos.
- Write the reject: the DFS sharp selling picks whose content is indistinguishable from gambling ads.
- Write adjacent so the phone does not smear: commissioner pain, Tuesday waivers, not sportsbook locks.
- Put that sentence into the brief
- Scroll as them on a fresh Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube account. Example to look for: someone missing a waiver because ESPN hid the button under three menus. Signal: the same Tuesday-night commish face two weeks in a row.
- Keep a 50k average-view floor. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
- Skip #fantasyfootball as a roster method.
- Email. The contact is usually in a bio that is a league Discord or a newsletter, not a picks storefront. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number.
- If they won’t give a number, move on. DFS accounts quote sportsbook rates. Move on.
- On the call, Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Talent extra.
- Send the contract while the yes is still warm. Scout $1,500 / Outreach $2,500 / Dealmaker $5,000.
- A working mock draft or waiver they can tap on a Tuesday.
- Tell them what to film: open waivers, process them, show Discord going quiet. That is the win. Do not ask them to post locks or imply betting. Ask them to run a waiver.
- Give each creator their own code. Unique App Store codes, not a picks screenshot.
- Do not run a launch day on the same morning if you wanted isolation.
- Two follow-ups, then stop. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.
Doing the scroll by hand is kind of soul-crushing. One like on a locks account and the phone will leave commissioner content. No demo. No download guarantee. You approve every creator and every rate.
Commissioner rants already have the audience; a waiver flow a sleepy commish can run is the product.
