Film camera companion apps vs a hashtag list
A hashtag list for film camera companion apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.
People tag #filmisnotdead when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.
The person: US English, 22-36, already bounced off a Notes app of roll IDs and a light meter they cannot find in a bag, watches ‘I lost the roll notes’ and lab-drop videos at a counter. They watch lost-roll-notes, lab-drop, ‘what ISO was this’, bag-meter-hunt. Example: someone at a lab unable to say what ISO the roll was. The same lab-counter face two drop-offs.
How I actually use a tag, then ignore it
Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 600k film-influencer whose grid is a Leica brand trip, because that is who buys the tag.
Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
Like a Leica trip and you will leave the lab-counter people. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.
When a hashtag is enough
If you are learning that lab counters, lost notes, not Leica flex is next to lost-roll-notes, lab-drop, ‘what ISO was this’, bag-meter-hunt, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.
The tag is Leica-trip talent and lab affiliates.
