First freelance invoicing tools campaign checklist

Creator-powered user acquisition

A first freelance invoicing tools campaign at founder scale. Numbered so you can stop lying to yourself about which step you skipped.

  1. Confirm a working invoice they can send to a real client today actually closes. Creators cannot fix packaging.
  2. Write the avatar in a sentence: US English freelancer, 26-40, already bounced off Wave and a Google Doc invoice they duplicate, watches ‘this client is 45 days out’ and ‘I hate looking like a corporation’ videos on a Thursday when they should be sending the reminder.
  3. Write the problem in their mouth: I am 45 days out and the reminder still looks like I am going to sue them.
  4. Write what they already quit: Wave they outgrew or got lost in, a Google Doc they duplicate, and PayPal.me they know looks unprofessional.
  5. Write what they watch: late-client rants, ‘QuickBooks is for my uncle’s shop’, Doc-invoice shame, 1099 panic.
  6. Write the reject: the accounting-TikTok CPA selling a $1k bookkeeping package.
  7. Write adjacent so the phone does not smear: 45-days-out, 1099 panic, not SMB payroll.
  8. Put that sentence into the brief
  9. Scroll as them on a fresh Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube account. Example to look for: someone hovering over send on a reminder and then closing the laptop. Signal: the same 45-day-out face two Thursdays in a row.
  10. Keep a 50k average-view floor. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
  11. Skip #freelancer as a roster method.
  12. Email. The contact is usually in a bio that is their freelance studio, often hello@name.studio. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number.
  13. If they won’t give a number, move on. Quit-your-job gurus quote course prices.
  14. On the call, Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Talent extra.
  15. Send the contract while the yes is still warm. Scout $1,500 / Outreach $2,500 / Dealmaker $5,000.
  16. A sendable invoice, no bookkeeping onboarding.
  17. Tell them what to film: make the invoice, send the reminder, show the email. Stop. Do not ask them to film a luxury flex. Ask them to send a reminder.
  18. Give each creator their own code. Unique signup links, not a ‘I got paid’ dance with no tool.
  19. Do not run a launch day on the same morning if you wanted isolation.
  20. Two follow-ups, then stop. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

Doing the scroll by hand is kind of soul-crushing. Like a dropshipping video and you will leave the 1099 people. No demo. No download guarantee. You approve every creator and every rate.

Late-client rants already have the audience; a reminder they will actually send is the product.
