First freelance time trackers campaign checklist

Creator-powered user acquisition

A first freelance time trackers campaign at founder scale. Numbered so you can stop lying to yourself about which step you skipped.

  1. Confirm a working timer plus a client-ready week they can send tonight actually closes. Creators cannot fix packaging.
  2. Write the avatar in a sentence: US English freelancer, 25-39, already bounced off Toggl reports they cannot send and a Notes app of hours, watches ‘I reconstructed my week from Slack’ and ‘Toggl reports look like a spreadsheet threw up’ videos on Sunday invoicing night.
  3. Write the problem in their mouth: Sunday I am guessing Tuesday from Slack because I forgot the timer.
  4. Write what they already quit: Toggl they cannot report from, a Notes list of hours, and a spreadsheet they fill in from memory on Sunday.
  5. Write what they watch: Slack-reconstruction, Toggl-report hate, ‘I forgot to start the timer’, Sunday invoicing.
  6. Write the reject: the productivity YouTuber selling a $199 time-blocking cohort.
  7. Write adjacent so the phone does not smear: Sunday invoices, forgotten timers, not enterprise billable-hour OS.
  8. Put that sentence into the brief
  9. Scroll as them on a fresh Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube account. Example to look for: someone scrolling Slack to guess Tuesday’s hours. Signal: the same Sunday-invoicing face two weeks in a row.
  10. Keep a 50k average-view floor. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
  11. Skip #freelancer as a roster method.
  12. Email. The contact is usually in a freelance bio, often a studio gmail. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number.
  13. If they won’t give a number, move on. Productivity coaches quote cohort prices.
  14. On the call, Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Talent extra.
  15. Send the contract while the yes is still warm. Scout $1,500 / Outreach $2,500 / Dealmaker $5,000.
  16. Start a timer, stop it, export a week.
  17. Tell them what to film: start the timer, do 20 minutes, export the week. Send it to yourself as the client. Do not ask them to time-block a fake CEO week. Ask them to reconstruct one real Tuesday, then show the timer.
  18. Give each creator their own code. Unique signup links, not a ‘I billed 40 hours’ flex.
  19. Do not run a launch day on the same morning if you wanted isolation.
  20. Two follow-ups, then stop. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

Doing the scroll by hand is kind of soul-crushing. Like a CEO-of-one time-block video and you will leave Sunday invoicing. No demo. No download guarantee. You approve every creator and every rate.

Slack-reconstruction rants already have the audience; a week view a client will accept is the product.
