What language learning apps creators charge

Creator-powered user acquisition

I do not have a rate card for language learning apps and I will not invent one. What I have is a filter and a deal shape.

The filter: roughly 50k average views. Below that they quote $700 a post for 1k views. That’s a money sink. Method-sellers quote course prices because that is their real product.

The deal shape: pay $X for N posts with a Minimum View Guarantee of Y. An example that is easy to hold: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Balance those so you hit your CPM. Creator compensation is extra on every JumpTrend plan. Scout is $1,500. Outreach is $2,500. Dealmaker is $5,000. Those numbers are for matching, contacting, and paper. Talent is a separate invoice you approve.

Why email is where the money-sink happens

I prefer email. The contact is usually in a Linktree under a $199 method; say you are buying one app demo, not a bundle. Don’t start the deal over email. Ask for the phone number. If they won’t, move on. Talking deal over email is how you get the first number. On a call I can explain a floor of views. Over email you just get “$700 a post.”

The anti-Duolingo rant is already a genre; an app that drills the sentence they actually need can ride that rant without becoming another owl.

What not to pay for

A 2M-view owl-hate video with no install. Do not ask them to film a 30-day fluency challenge. Ask them to fail a sentence, then pass it in the app. Skip the polyglot with a wall of flags who is selling a $199 method.

The tag is full of tutors selling 1:1 Zoom, not indie apps.

What I actually measure

Unique App Store codes, not ‘me too’ comments under a Duolingo rant. App Store installs with a unique custom code. No download guarantee. No demo.

If they think the offer is too low, keep the same CPM and just up the numbers. Increasing your CPM should almost never be an option if it makes the product unprofitable. Move on. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.
