Meal kit brands vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for meal kit brands is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as your client’s customer on a fresh account.

People tag #mealkit when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: the client’s customer is US English, 28-42, already bounced off HelloFresh they cancelled after the fridge filled with plastic and a grocery delivery that still required cooking at 8pm, watches ‘I cancelled HelloFresh’ and 8pm-what-is-for-dinner videos after work. They watch HelloFresh-cancel, 8pm-dinner-panic, fridge-full-of-plastic, ‘I still had to cook’. Example: someone opening a fridge of uncooked kit bags on trash night. The same 8pm-panic face two weeknights.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the homesteading creator who will mock a kit on principle, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a homestead sourdough and you will leave the 8pm panic. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that 8pm panic, plastic-fridge shame, not homestead flex is next to HelloFresh-cancel, 8pm-dinner-panic, fridge-full-of-plastic, ‘I still had to cook’, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag is every meal-kit affiliate who already posted HelloFresh last month.
