Meditation apps vs a hashtag list
A hashtag list for meditation apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.
People tag #meditationapp when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.
The person: US English, 27-40, already bounced off Headspace subscriptions and a singing-bowl they used twice, watches ‘meditation apps made me worse’ and panic-at-2am videos with the phone brightness down. They watch Headspace cancellation rants, panic-at-2am, ‘guided voice I cannot stand’, silent-timer demos. Example: someone muting a guided voice 40 seconds in and just staring at a clock. The same mute-the-guide face after midnight, twice in a week.
How I actually use a tag, then ignore it
Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 500k breathwork coach selling a retreat in the caption of every sit, because that is who buys the tag.
Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
Like one manifestation video and you will never see a silent sit again. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.
When a hashtag is enough
If you are learning that insomnia adjacent, not manifestation or crystal shops is next to Headspace cancellation rants, panic-at-2am, ‘guided voice I cannot stand’, silent-timer demos, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.
The catalog is wellness coaches and breathwork retreats, not a utility timer.
