What newsletter tools creators charge
I do not have a rate card for newsletter tools and I will not invent one. What I have is a filter and a deal shape.
The filter: roughly 50k average views. Below that they quote $700 a post for 1k views. That’s a money sink. Creator-economy gurus quote course prices for a tool mention.
The deal shape: pay $X for N posts with a Minimum View Guarantee of Y. An example that is easy to hold: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Balance those so you hit your CPM. Creator compensation is extra on every JumpTrend plan. Scout is $1,500. Outreach is $2,500. Dealmaker is $5,000. Those numbers are for matching, contacting, and paper. Talent is a separate invoice you approve.
Why email is where the money-sink happens
I prefer email. The contact is usually in a bio that is hello@their-tiny-site, not a talent agency. Don’t start the deal over email. Ask for the phone number. If they won’t, move on. Talking deal over email is how you get the first number. On a call I can explain a floor of views. Over email you just get “$700 a post.”
Substack-cut rants already have the audience; a send they can do from a markdown box is the product.
What not to pay for
A 10k-growth carousel with no send. Do not ask them to promise growth. Ask them to write, send, and show the inbox. Skip the 200k creator-economy guru whose last 10 posts are course ads about newsletters they do not send.
The tag is ghostwriters and growth agencies selling list-building, not a tool demo.
What I actually measure
Unique signup links, not a screenshot of ‘10k subs’ that is not yours. Signups to a live paid or free newsletter product, unique link. No download guarantee. No demo.
If they think the offer is too low, keep the same CPM and just up the numbers. Increasing your CPM should almost never be an option if it makes the product unprofitable. Move on. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.
