Notes apps vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for notes apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.

People tag #notetaking when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: US English, 24-36, already bounced off Notion they use as a graveyard and Roam they felt dumb inside of, watches ‘my second brain is a junk drawer’ and Apple-Notes-is-enough videos on the train. They watch second-brain collapse, ‘I built a system I do not open’, Apple Notes defense, PKM-shame. Example: someone opening a Notion workspace with 400 empty pages to find one address. The same junk-drawer face two commutes in a row.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 80k PKM YouTuber whose last 15 videos are the same PARA recap with a new sponsor, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a Zettelkasten graph and the phone will leave Apple-Notes-is-enough people. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that meeting capture, junk-drawer shame, not Zettelkasten flex is next to second-brain collapse, ‘I built a system I do not open’, Apple Notes defense, PKM-shame, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag is PKM course-sellers; they will not demo a boring inbox.
