Phone cases vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for phone cases is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would buy this SKU on a fresh account.

People tag #phonecase when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: US English, 18-32, already bounced off a case that yellowed and a cheap one that cracked on a drop, watches ‘this case yellowed in a month’ and drop-test videos on a sidewalk. They watch yellowed-case, cracked-on-drop, MagSafe-misalign, ‘it said for my phone and the buttons miss’. Example: someone holding a yellowed clear case next to a new phone. The same yellowed-clear face two sidewalk videos.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 1M case-haul who films 20 colors and never drops one, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a fashion-case haul and you will leave the yellowed-clear people. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that sidewalk drop, yellowing, not fashion-case hauls is next to yellowed-case, cracked-on-drop, MagSafe-misalign, ‘it said for my phone and the buttons miss’, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag is 20-color hauls.
