First mobile photography apps campaign checklist

Creator-powered user acquisition

A first mobile photography apps campaign at founder scale. Numbered so you can stop lying to yourself about which step you skipped.

  1. Confirm a live listing whose first screenshot is a shutter, not a storefront of packs actually closes. Creators cannot fix packaging.
  2. Write the avatar in a sentence: US English, 22-34, already bounced off VSCO they pay for and never open and Lightroom presets they cannot remember, watches ‘iPhone can look like Portra’ and over-edited-selfie regret videos on the walk home.
  3. Write the problem in their mouth: I just wanted the photo to look like the walk felt, and the pack turned everyone orange.
  4. Write what they already quit: VSCO they resent paying for, a $19 preset pack they used twice, and the native Camera app they keep returning to in a hurry.
  5. Write what they watch: iPhone-Portra recipes, over-edited regret, ‘I bought another preset pack’, JPEG-vs-raw arguments.
  6. Write the reject: the preset-pack seller whose whole grid is the same orange skin.
  7. Write adjacent so the phone does not smear: walk-home snapshots, not wedding-photographer education.
  8. Put that sentence into the brief
  9. Scroll as them on a fresh Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube account. Example to look for: someone showing a photo they liked, then the same photo after a pack made the skin plastic. Signal: the same Portra-on-iPhone face two evening walks in a row.
  10. Keep a 50k average-view floor. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
  11. Skip #iphonephotography as a roster method.
  12. Email. The contact is usually in a bio that is a Gumroad pack; write that you are buying a camera-app demo. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number.
  13. If they won’t give a number, move on. Preset sellers quote pack-launch rates because that is the SKU.
  14. On the call, Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Talent extra.
  15. Send the contract while the yes is still warm. Scout $1,500 / Outreach $2,500 / Dealmaker $5,000.
  16. A working camera they can shoot with on tonight’s walk.
  17. Tell them what to film: open the camera, shoot the walk, do not open a pack. Do not ask them to sell a pack in your video. Ask them to shoot one walk in the app.
  18. Give each creator their own code. Unique App Store codes, not a photo dump that never names the app.
  19. Do not run a launch day on the same morning if you wanted isolation.
  20. Two follow-ups, then stop. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

Doing the scroll by hand is kind of soul-crushing. Like a wedding-education video and you will leave the walk-home snapshot people. No demo. No download guarantee. You approve every creator and every rate.

Recipe videos already have the audience; a camera that bakes one look in is the thing they can open on the walk.
