Sober-curious apps vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for sober-curious apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.

People tag #sobercurious when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: US English, 26-38, already bounced off I Am Sober streaks and a Dry January badge they hid, watches ‘I am not an alcoholic I just hate Sunday’ and mocktails-that-still-feel-sad videos after a wedding RSVP. They watch sober-curious, ‘I hate Sunday’, Dry January collapse, NA-beer arguments, wedding-RSVP dread. Example: someone declining a drink, opening a streak app that scolded them for last Saturday, and closing it. The same Sunday-dread face two weekends in a row.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the recovery-coach selling a $2k container whose content is medical-adjacent lectures, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

One like on a party-bar video and the phone will leave Sunday-dread content. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that Sunday dread, wedding RSVPs, not clinic ads and not drinking-game content is next to sober-curious, ‘I hate Sunday’, Dry January collapse, NA-beer arguments, wedding-RSVP dread, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag mixes NA brands wanting gifting with coaches selling containers.
