First status page tools campaign checklist

Creator-powered user acquisition

A first status page tools campaign at founder scale. Numbered so you can stop lying to yourself about which step you skipped.

  1. Confirm a working public status URL they can incident-post to from a phone actually closes. Creators cannot fix packaging.
  2. Write the avatar in a sentence: US English solo SaaS, 27-40, already bounced off Statuspage.io pricing and a Twitter-as-status-page habit, watches ‘our status page is a tweet’ and ‘Statuspage wants more than my product’ videos during an outage.
  3. Write the problem in their mouth: I announced the outage in a tweet and now the thread is the product.
  4. Write what they already quit: a tweet thread as a status page, Statuspage.io until they saw the bill, and a Google Doc they DMed to angry users.
  5. Write what they watch: outage-tweet recaps, Statuspage-price shock, ‘I posted the incident in Slack and customers never saw it’, uptime-robot screenshots.
  6. Write the reject: the DevOps influencer whose grid is Kubernetes and who will not talk to a solo founder.
  7. Write adjacent so the phone does not smear: outage tweets, phone-posted incidents, not SRE theater.
  8. Put that sentence into the brief
  9. Scroll as them on a fresh Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube account. Example to look for: someone tweeting ‘we’re down’ and then arguing in replies because there is no incident URL. Signal: the same outage-tweet face after two incidents.
  10. Keep a 50k average-view floor. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
  11. Skip #devops as a roster method.
  12. Email. The contact is usually in a tiny product footer, often a personal email. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number.
  13. If they won’t give a number, move on. DevOps influencers quote conference-talk rates.
  14. On the call, Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Talent extra.
  15. Send the contract while the yes is still warm. Scout $1,500 / Outreach $2,500 / Dealmaker $5,000.
  16. A public page, one incident, no enterprise onboarding.
  17. Tell them what to film: post an incident from the phone, show the public URL, resolve it. Do not ask them to fake an outage for content. Use a past incident or a staging post labeled as a drill.
  18. Give each creator their own code. Unique signup links, not an uptime screenshot.
  19. Do not run a launch day on the same morning if you wanted isolation.
  20. Two follow-ups, then stop. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

Doing the scroll by hand is kind of soul-crushing. Like a K8s incident and you will leave the tweet-as-status people. No demo. No download guarantee. You approve every creator and every rate.

Outage-tweet recaps already have the audience; a URL they can post from a phone is the product.
