Weather apps vs a hashtag list

Creator-powered user acquisition

A hashtag list for weather apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.

People tag #weatherapp when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.

The person: US English, 25-40, already bounced off a free weather app that became ads and Apple Weather they do not trust for a 5pm storm, watches ‘this app said 10 percent and I got soaked’ and radar-nerd videos before a commute. They watch wrong-forecast rage, radar looping, ‘the free app is ads now’, bike-commute soakings. Example: someone showing 10 percent chance, then a soaked bike commute. The same soaked-commute face two rain days in a row.

How I actually use a tag, then ignore it

Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the storm-chaser with a sponsorship from a weather hardware brand in every video, because that is who buys the tag.

Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.

Like a tornado-tourism video and you will leave the bike-commute people. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.

When a hashtag is enough

If you are learning that commute soakings, radar loops, not tornado tourism is next to wrong-forecast rage, radar looping, ‘the free app is ads now’, bike-commute soakings, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.

The tag is storm-chasers and hardware; they want a kit, not your radar.
