Whiskey journal apps vs a hashtag list
A hashtag list for whiskey journal apps is a vocabulary tool. It is not a roster. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account.
People tag #whiskey when they want brands to find them. That is a real behavior. It is also why the list looks public. Another shop emailed a version of it last Tuesday.
The person: US English, 28-48, already bounced off a paper journal they spilled on and a Reddit tasting note they cannot find, watches ‘I cannot remember this bottle’ and Friday-pour videos at a kitchen table, 21+. They watch forgotten-bottle, Friday-pour, spilled-journal, ‘the Reddit note is gone’. Example: someone pouring a bottle they bought last year and guessing the tasting note. The same Friday-pour face two weeks.
How I actually use a tag, then ignore it
Hashtag search is cheap and fast. You will learn the words. You will also meet the 400k whiskey-influencer whose whole grid is allocated-bottle flex, because that is who buys the tag.
Then I switch to the feed. Fresh account. Real phones. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink.
Like an allocated flex and you will leave the Friday kitchen table. Scout is $1,500/month because some founders will still want the list without becoming a hashtag intern.
When a hashtag is enough
If you are learning that Friday kitchen pours, forgotten bottles, not allocated flex is next to forgotten-bottle, Friday-pour, spilled-journal, ‘the Reddit note is gone’, a tag is enough. If you are about to spend talent money, it is not.
The tag is allocated-bottle flex and bar-crawl talent.
