Launch an influencer campaign for freelance invoicing tools

How I launch a freelance invoicing tool influencer campaign

I scroll Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube under a fresh account if I’m marketing a freelance invoicing tool. I try to put myself in this person’s shoes: US English freelancer, 26-40, already bounced off Wave and a Google Doc invoice they duplicate, watches 'this client is 45 days out' and 'I hate looking like a corporation' videos on a Thursday when they should be sending the reminder. Linger, save, like, and comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that they quote $700 a post for 1k views. That’s a money sink.

You really need to do this for hundreds of creators a day, because the market is not efficient. Some dumb startup is paying thousands for hundreds of views. I scroll as the person who would pay for this tool on real phones. Scout is $1,500/month. We find creators. Outreach is $2,500 if I should send the emails. Dealmaker is $5,000 if I should negotiate and paper the deal. Creator fees extra. No demo. No download guarantee. I wrote the long version at How I find influencers.

  • No demo
  • Real phones
  • You approve every creator and every rate

Where people actually look

I still start on a fresh account for freelance invoicing tools.

  • Creator marketplacesA catalog of people who signed up to get deals. The tag is agencies and 'quit your job' gurus; they want a course, not an invoice tool. Fine if you need a body. Not who is watching late-client rants, 'QuickBooks is for my uncle's shop', Doc-invoice shame, 1099 panic this week.
  • Influencer databasesWho exists, with filters and emails. Useful later. It still does not tell you who TikTok is pushing to someone watching late-client rants, 'QuickBooks is for my uncle's shop', Doc-invoice shame, 1099 panic this week.
  • A UA or influencer agencyA retainer, a deck, a timeline. Makes sense if you have budget for a team. Overkill if you already have a freelance invoicing tool live and you need a first campaign this month.
  • Doing it yourselfThis is how I used to do it. Fresh account, then email, then a call. It works. Like a dropshipping video and you will leave the 1099 people. Doing it by hand is kind of soul-crushing, which is why I automated the scrolling. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

How I actually launch

Write who it is for. Then scroll. Then email. Then call.

01

Write who it is for

Not a demographic. I am 45 days out and the reminder still looks like I am going to sue them. They already tried Wave they outgrew or got lost in, a Google Doc they duplicate, and PayPal.me they know looks unprofessional. Skip the accounting-TikTok CPA selling a $1k bookkeeping package. Adjacent is 45-days-out, 1099 panic, not SMB payroll. Steal the brief if you want.

02

Scroll as them

Fresh account. Real phones. Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average. Example: someone hovering over send on a reminder and then closing the laptop. Signal: the same 45-day-out face two Thursdays in a row.

03

Email, then call

I prefer email. The contact is usually in a bio that is their freelance studio, often hello@name.studio. Just send a short note. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number. Don’t start the deal over email. Quit-your-job gurus quote course prices. If they won’t give a number, move on.

04

Minimum View Guarantee

Pay $X for N posts with a floor of Y views. An example that is easy to hold: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Then send the contract while it’s still fresh. A sendable invoice, no bookkeeping onboarding. Make the invoice, send the reminder, show the email. Stop.

Why most first freelance invoicing tools campaigns stall

The market is not efficient. Some dumb startup is paying thousands for hundreds of views.

01

You pick one expensive creator.

Quit-your-job gurus quote course prices. You needed a lot of other names so you could move on. Late-client rants already have the audience; a reminder they will actually send is the product.

02

The list came from a hashtag or a database.

People tag #freelancer when they want brands to find them. A database tells you who exists. Your customer lives in a feed you never opened. A paid-invoice dance with a blacked-out number you cannot verify.

03

You talk money over email.

Many times I have read something unprofitable like “$700 a post” from a creator that gets 50k views. On a call I can explain a Minimum View Guarantee. Over email you just get the first number. Do not ask them to film a luxury flex. Ask them to send a reminder.

What you actually buy

Scout, Outreach, or Dealmaker. Same campaign, more of it done for you.

Every plan includes the scrolling. Pay more and I do more of the emailing and the paperwork. Creator pay is extra. No demo. No download guarantee. A working invoice they can send to a real client today.

Questions

The things I get asked first.

Can I just search #freelancer?

You can learn vocabulary that way. People tag what they want brands to find. I still scroll as the person who would pay for this tool on a fresh account and take whoever keeps showing up. The method essay is How we find creators by scrolling a real TikTok avatar.

Do you guarantee views or signups to a live invoicing product?

No. Anyone who does is lying or running paid. I do the scrolling and, on Outreach and Dealmaker, the contacting. You still approve every creator and every rate. Talent is extra. No demo. No download guarantee.

What if they quote $700 a post?

Quit-your-job gurus quote course prices. I want roughly 50k average views or the economics usually break. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink. On a call I can explain a Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Over email you just get the first number. If they will not give a number, move on. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

Is a marketplace wrong for freelance invoicing tools?

No. It is a different job. The tag is agencies and 'quit your job' gurus; they want a course, not an invoice tool. I read the session the person who would pay for this tool actually gets served. Product page for the general job: campaigns.
