Launch an influencer campaign for sewing pattern apps

How I launch a sewing pattern app influencer campaign

I scroll Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube under a fresh account if I’m marketing a sewing pattern app. I try to put myself in this person’s shoes: US English, 26-48, already bounced off a PDF pattern that ate a printer and a paper pattern they cannot refold, watches this PDF ate my ink and cutting-table videos on a Saturday. Linger, save, like, and comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average views. Below that they quote $700 a post for 1k views. That’s a money sink.

You really need to do this for hundreds of creators a day, because the market is not efficient. Some dumb startup is paying thousands for hundreds of views. I scroll as the person who would download this on real phones. Scout is $1,500/month. We find creators. Outreach is $2,500 if I should send the emails. Dealmaker is $5,000 if I should negotiate and paper the deal. Creator fees extra. No demo. No download guarantee. I wrote the long version at How I find influencers.

  • No demo
  • Real phones
  • You approve every creator and every rate

Where people actually look

I still start on a fresh account for sewing pattern apps.

  • Creator marketplacesA catalog of people who signed up to get deals. The tag is fabric-haul talent. Fine if you need a body. Not who is watching PDF-ate-ink, cutting-table, I cannot refold this, Saturday-sew this week.
  • Influencer databasesWho exists, with filters and emails. Useful later. It still does not tell you who TikTok is pushing to someone watching PDF-ate-ink, cutting-table, I cannot refold this, Saturday-sew this week.
  • A UA or influencer agencyA retainer, a deck, a timeline. Makes sense if you have budget for a team. Overkill if you already have a sewing pattern app live and you need a first campaign this month.
  • Doing it yourselfThis is how I used to do it. Fresh account, then email, then a call. It works. Like a fabric haul and you will leave the ink-cartridge people. Doing it by hand is kind of soul-crushing, which is why I automated the scrolling. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

How I actually launch

Write who it is for. Then scroll. Then email. Then call.

01

Write who it is for

Not a demographic. I wanted a size chart and I printed 40 pages and killed the ink, and I still cannot refold the tissue. They already tried a PDF that ate a printer, a paper pattern they cannot refold, and a blog post with a missing measurement. Skip the 500k sewing-influencer whose grid is a fabric-haul. Adjacent is cutting tables, ink-eating PDFs, not fabric-haul. Steal the brief if you want.

02

Scroll as them

Fresh account. Real phones. Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Linger, save, like, comment as if I were them. Once the algorithm is trained I take whoever keeps showing up. Ideally over 50k average. Example: someone holding a 40-page PDF next to an empty ink cartridge. Signal: the same ink-cartridge face two Saturdays.

03

Email, then call

I prefer email. The contact is usually in a small Saturday-sew bio. Just send a short note. Name a real video. Ask for the phone number. Don’t start the deal over email. Sewing influencers quote fabric-haul rates. If they won’t give a number, move on.

04

Minimum View Guarantee

Pay $X for N posts with a floor of Y views. An example that is easy to hold: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Then send the contract while it’s still fresh. Open a size chart at a cutting table. Open the size chart at the table, skip the 40-page print, drop the code.

Why most first sewing pattern apps campaigns stall

The market is not efficient. Some dumb startup is paying thousands for hundreds of views.

01

You pick one expensive creator.

Sewing influencers quote fabric-haul rates. You needed a lot of other names so you could move on. Ink-eating-PDF rants already have the audience; a size chart at the cutting table is the product.

02

The list came from a hashtag or a database.

People tag sewing tag when they want brands to find them. A database tells you who exists. Your customer lives in a feed you never opened. A fabric haul with no size chart.

03

You talk money over email.

Many times I have read something unprofitable like “$700 a post” from a creator that gets 50k views. On a call I can explain a Minimum View Guarantee. Over email you just get the first number. Do not ask for a fabric haul. Ask them to use a size chart at the table.

What you actually buy

Scout, Outreach, or Dealmaker. Same campaign, more of it done for you.

Every plan includes the scrolling. Pay more and I do more of the emailing and the paperwork. Creator pay is extra. No demo. No download guarantee. A live listing whose first screenshot is a size chart and a note, not a shop.

Questions

The things I get asked first.

Can I just search sewing tag?

You can learn vocabulary that way. People tag what they want brands to find. I still scroll as the person who would download this on a fresh account and take whoever keeps showing up. The method essay is How we find creators by scrolling a real TikTok avatar.

Do you guarantee views or App Store installs with a unique custom code?

No. Anyone who does is lying or running paid. I do the scrolling and, on Outreach and Dealmaker, the contacting. You still approve every creator and every rate. Talent is extra. No demo. No download guarantee.

What if they quote $700 a post?

Sewing influencers quote fabric-haul rates. I want roughly 50k average views or the economics usually break. Below that, $700 a post for 1k views is a money sink. On a call I can explain a Minimum View Guarantee. Example: $2000 / 4 posts / 1M views. Over email you just get the first number. If they will not give a number, move on. If you do this right, ie at scale, you will have many other creators to choose from.

Is a marketplace wrong for sewing pattern apps?

No. It is a different job. The tag is fabric-haul talent. I read the session the person who would download this actually gets served. Product page for the general job: campaigns.
